Welcome to the Obama Works HomeBase!
The HomeBase is our newest feature. It's a place for local Obama Works groups to congregate, display their work and plan new events.
The HomeBase is a blank slate: there aren't any rules (well, maybe a couple) and we're not restricting the way you can use it. Just create an account, join your local group's page and go nuts! You can use HTML to create a site for your group to show off its work, you can use our built-in tools to do it--you can do whatever you think will help us help our communities.
See our chapters here!
We created the HomeBase because we think it's in line with the citizen-centric approach of Obama Works. We here at Obama Works HQ (and by Obama Works HQ, I mean 'wherever we and our computers happen to be') realized that this site has too much of us, too little of you. A couple of you mentioned that you were interested in creating your own websites, that it would be useful to get the word out and plan your events. The HomeBase is a very easy way to do exactly that. Just like everything else on the site, the idea of the HomeBase is to be a resource. We want to offer some suggestions, give you whatever help we can, and then get out of the way.
Using the HomeBase
The HomeBase is built on the Mediawiki framework--the same thing that runs wikipedia!--so it's very easy to use. Basically, every group has an internal page, "the drawing board," and an external one, the "homebase." The whole world has access to the homebase, and only local groups have access to their own "drawing board." To learn more, go to our help section.
